About Our Place

Our Place is a Community Interest Company formed in 2011 and is managed by a team of Directors who are supported by Strategic and Operations Management Boards.

IMG_3287Our Place Community Hub, based  in the centre of Sutton Coldfield aims to bring vital
advice and support services to the local area. We do this through providing space for voluntary sector services and groups that deliver services such as employment support, counselling and talking therapies as well as specific support groups such as carers support and parenting.

The Community Hub is also home to the Our Place Mentoring Scheme which delivers one to one and group based support to children and parents. Our sessions mainly use a cognitive behavioural therapy approach and elements of play therapy are introduced for younger children. We accept referrals from schools, parents, young people and health care professionals and deliver support on a weekly basis for up to 12 months.

WHC group workOur mentoring scheme is suitable as an early intervention programme for children and
young people that are experiencing difficulties with issues such as friendships, family breakdown and self-esteem. However we are also have the expertise and resources within our team to support those children that need a higher level of support and this includes children and young people that are experiencing the effects of loss or trauma, are bullied or bully others, those that are struggling with their mental well being including stress, anxiety and low mood and those that are living in difficult circumstances including poverty and domestic violence.

The work we undertake with parents and carers is focused on parenting skills and techniques, we offer both group and one to one support and offer the Love and Logic and Positive Parenting Programmes. We encourage parents and carers to access one of our courses initially and progress on to one to one work if necessary, however this isn’t essential as we understand that group support isn’t for everyone. One to one referrals can be made at any time by parents/carers themselves, schools or health professionals.
